Lot 400
Mark Antony, 44-30 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.82 g, 6 h), military mint moving with Mark Antony (Patrae?), 32-31. ANT AVG - III VIR•R•P•C Galley right, with scepter tied with fillet on prow. Rev. LEG - XIV Aquila between two signa. Babelon (Antonia) 123. Crawford 544/29. CRI 369. RBW -. Sydenham 1234. Nicely toned, sharply struck and very well centered, a lovely example. Extremely fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.
This short-lived Antonian legion was most likely disbanded by Octavian after the Battle of Actium. It is not to be confused with Legio XIV Gemina, which was raised by Julius Casar during the early stages of the Gallic Wars, and which later defeated Queen Boudica under Nero in 61 AD
